About me

My name is Aurora Guilfoyle and I am a qualified counsellor/psychotherapist. I am also a qualified nurse and have worked with people with intellectual disabilities and their families throughout my career. From my many years’ experience, I have gained a wealth of experience in assisting people with both long- and short-term mental health difficulties.

My Approach

Counselling /Psychotherapy is a form of talk therapy. The counselling room is a safe space where you can speak freely without judgement. I use an integrative approach to counselling and am committed to providing a client centered holistic approach to ensure that each client meets their therapy goals. I am a firm believer “it is not theories and techniques that heal the suffering client but the human dimension of therapy and the meetings that occur between therapist and client as they work together.” Elkins (2009).

For this reason, I incorporate a variety of techniques and teachings in my practice. I have a keen interest in person centred therapy, choice theory acceptance and commitment therapy and transactional analysis. I at all times use the underpinning principals of congruence, unconditional positive regard and empathy. I work with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, chemical and alcohol dependency, loss and bereavement (including working with those who have been affected by suicide), stress, self – esteem issues, sexual, physical and emotional abuse and family concerns.

My Services

I provide counselling and psychotherapy for individuals and couples. I specialize in counselling parents of children and people with Intellectual Disabilities. I am based in Drogheda and offer sessions via zoom, what's app video call and face to face. I also engage in walk and talk therapy if this is something you feel you may benefit from. “Walk and Talk therapy (W&T) is an opportunity to engage in therapy with the added mindfulness coping skill of becoming present in nature”. Birtwistle. I (2017). It involves taking the therapy practice outside of the four walls of the therapy room and engaging in nature through walking on a local beach or a local nature trail. At all times I work within the I.AC.P code of ethics and practice and its underpinning principals of autonomy, beneficence, non-malfeasance justice and care.
